Form & texture

Form – Shape and depth, created by shadow and lighting that explores contours. Form adds a third dimension because of the volume of an object. The eye is then drawn to the form in an image and this is shown through the contours of a subject.

In this image above it has used the use of not angling it straight on to give it a dimensional view and the contours of darker colours also allow us to pursue it as 3d. Changing the angle of the view also allows the shadow to reveal the form.

Texture – Hard, soft, rough, smooth, rugged, grainy, shiny, etc. If you are able to convey this you are visually translating texture. By zooming in and getting in closer to an image helps achieve the view and feeling of the texture. Texture is best revealed when light is present being angled in from the side, top or rear. If the lighting was front on it would present it to be flat and uninteresting.

The image above has lighting coming in from the right side in the corner, by doing this is allows the texture to be visually interesting. Also it gives a sense of 3d and lifts the image giving it feeling.
